Because growing old is a privilege I'm walking 250kms for Bella's legacy

My beautiful niece Bella was just 24 when she passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. She taught us all that 'Growing old is a privilege' and reminded us that 'life is happening right now'. Despite everything she faced, she chose gratitude, kindness and joy every single day.

This August, I'll be walking 250km in Bella's honour as part of the Chris O'Brien Lifehouse Go the Distance challenge. Every step will help raise funds for the incredible team who cared for Bella and for the patients and families who need them today. If you're able to support me, I'd be truly grateful. Together, we can help Bella's legacy continue to make a difference.

Going the Distance for Bella

Every kilometre I’ve walked this month, I’ve thought about why I’m doing it and about Bella.

It’s hard to believe my beautiful niece was only 24 when we lost her. Bella faced three years of cancer with extraordinary courage, humour and perspective. One of the lessons she left us was: "Growing old is a privilege."

Walking in her memory has made those words feel more powerful with every kilometre.

Fourteen days into my 250km Got the Distance challenge, I’ve walked 134kms and, thanks to the incredible generosity of friends, family and colleagues, raised $3590 for the Chris O'Brien Lifehouse.

To everyone who has donated, encouraged me or shared my page thank you. It genuinely means a great deal to me and our family.

The Lifehouse gave Bella exceptional care and compassion when she needed it most. I want other patients like Bella to have access to the very best care and research and the best possible chance of beating cancer and enjoying the privilege of growing old.

There are 116kms still to walk and hopefully plenty more to raise. If you’d like to support me, every donation, whatever the size, will make a difference.
