My target 250 kms

This September, I’m Going The Distance to help patients with cancer at Chris O'Brien Lifehouse.

I’m going the distance to get moving to reach my goal for the month. With your support, every kilometre will count towards ensuring the very best cancer care is available to everyone in our community.

All donations will help Chris O’Brien Lifehouse continue to provide compassionate, research-driven cancer care, as well as holistic support services for people with cancer.

Every kilometre counts, can I count on you?

My Updates

Day 1 or Day 32.

Monday 1st Sep
I'm writing this update from the 7th floor of Chris O'Brien Lifehouse, watching the sunrise on the 1st day of spring, also the first day of September or day 1 of this challenge. It's also day 32 into our time at Chris O'Brien and a small way into our cancer journey. Whilst I would give anything for Zoe not to have to go through this, I'm so thankful to have the amazing facility, services and staff at COBL available to us during this time. It is hard to watch someone you love so much go through this cancer journey. Someone who is so giving of herself, so strong, kind and caring. Often the first person to offer to help others. At times I feel helpless and wish there was something more I could do and so that is partly why I have taken up this challenge. It's good to have a goal, and something to motivate you to the gym or to get out on the bike. Especially when our life is our of our regular routine. Our life is vastly different then 3 months ago, and we are all doing our best to adjust. It's been a big change for the boys. They are doing their best, but moving into a different home and having a different set up has been hard, and I don't have an answer for how long it will be for. They miss having mum at home for the weeks that she is getting treatment. Last week they enjoyed getting to visit mum and especially liked getting to visit the you can centre. It has proven to be a sanctuary for Zoe, and a place of calm amongst the chaos. A home away from home. The funds I'm aiming to raise go towards the work of COBL and support for patients like Zoe who are on their own cancer journey. Whilst I have completed my 250km, Zoe still has a long way to go. Please consider donating to help me reach my fundraising target. I will aim for another 250km for the month of September taking my total to 500km. I truly appreciate all the support we have received so far. Thanks to those who have donated, or given food or offered to look after the boys for an afternoon. It all helps and has been appreciated. Will provide another update sometime in September. Much love, Simon

Day 31.

Monday 1st Sep
Decided I wanted to aim to finish the km target by the end of August, so I could try and do it again in September. So yesterday I did my biggest ride on the bike to get it done.

Day 27

Wednesday 27th Aug
Zoe is in week 5 of a 10 week chemo program before surgery the Osteosarcoma. This week she is spending 5 days in Chris O'Brien Lifehouse being cared for by excellent medical staff and a range of support services. The money I am raising helps fund these programs for people on their cancer journey.

Day 19.

Saturday 23rd Aug
Did another 25km at the gym.

Day 22

Saturday 23rd Aug
Zoe just spent 5 days in hospital. She had a few visitors throughout the week, and she was happy to be coming home on Friday. We get to have a weekend at home, before she goes back to the hospital on Monday! Have now got over 100km in the challenge. I think I'll aim to restart the challenge on September 1.

Day 14.

Thursday 14th Aug
Another 25km done on the bike, and daily dog walks with Nori and Toby to talk about our days! Zoe goes back to Chris O'Brien next Monday for a 5 day stay and her next round of chemo!

Day 11

Monday 11th Aug
Completed another 25km on the bike this evening.

Day 7.

Thursday 7th Aug
25km done this morning while everyone was still sleeping. The boys are keen to do some km on the bike this weekend while Zoe is resting. So we are planning on riding down to Parramatta Park.

Day 3.

Monday 4th Aug
Got to bring Zoe from hospital after 2 days of treatment.

We get 2 weeks at home, before heading back to the hospital for a big 2 week stay to continue treatment.

Another 5km for me this morning on the bike.

Day 1.

Saturday 2nd Aug
Zoe had her first weekend at Chris O'Brien Lifehouse this weekend. First 2 doses of chemo and 2 night stay with the incredible team at COBL.
I've made a start on my 250km challenge, and to be honest it's nothing compared to what Zoe has in front of her.
The money I am raising will help COBL continue to provide exceptional care to cancer patients.
I'm aiming for 250km, but will keep going above and beyond.
Thanks for your support.
