This September, I’m Going The Distance to help bring cancer care closer to home for regional Australians.
In September 2023, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I found a lump and this set off a relentless year of treatment which is still on going. To date, I’ve had 6 rounds of primary chemotherapy, 2 surgeries, 20 radiotherapy sessions and 8 rounds of secondary chemotherapy (with 6 to go!)
I’ve been fortunate in so many ways, with incredible support from my family, friends and colleagues. I went in fit and have managed to stay active throughout. I’ve also been so fortunate to have access to treatments at lifehouse. I can’t speak highly enough of the care I have had from everyone I’ve met there. I would never wish this past year on anyone, but I feel lucky to have had the care team that I’ve had. They’ve listened and worked with me, maximising my treatment to give me the best chances.
I’ve kept moving most days in September to reach my goal for the month. With your support, every km I cover will ensure more people across NSW can access life-changing, specialist cancer care, in an environment that feels like home.
